Our apartment is at the end of the Corso, where it converges with Via
Marconi. The terrace looks over Piazza Verdi and the theater. What
we have discovered is that during the biggest festival of the year: Santa
Rosa (which starts on September 3) 100 men in white (called facchini) carry
a statue of the patron saint (called la macchina) through the city and stop in
the Piazza Verdi before running up the hill to the church.

Apparently, in the past, the landlord has sold tickets
to watch the festivities from our terrace. This year he was bummed that we were moving
in before Santa Rosa, as he was able to rent the apartment for 2,000 euro last
year for this festival alone! Needless to say, many of my colleagues have
asked if they can come over with their families to watch the procession.
