Orvieto is a beautiful little town just over the border in Umbria. We were there during Christmas break, then returned during Spring break when Olivia and Luke came to visit (and that time we stopped in Civita di Bagnoregio -- an old town on a crumbling hill -- on the way. Gorgeous. Because the land is eroding, there are few people who actually still live on hilltop.) Max and I went back a third time with Nic and Patrizia. We explored the famous well and underground tunnels.

| view out from underground tunnel. All of Orvieto once had underground tunnels, except under the cathedral. |
 |
| Deep well in Orvieto. The stairs leading down are different from those going up. |

| Olivia's grandmother is buried in the Orvieto cemetery, so we stopped for a visit. |
