Sunday Antique Market

Most Sundays in Viterbo, a group of "dealers" set up their tables and try to sell anything from beautiful old scales to collections of Barbie dolls.

Today I was thrilled to find two different tables with an interest in children's art. No, not art made by children (Max gives me plenty of that), but old illustrations from children's books or games/toys. I have always loved that stuff.

I bought some alphabet stamps (rubber stamps) that have the classic old letters on them to teach Italian kids pronunciation and proper handwriting.

From the same vendor, I was also able to get some office stamps that I liked...

Recommended, cancelled, express, registered, urgent

Perhaps more interesting were the things I didn't buy...

There was a vendor with old children's books and children's tales on LPs.  He had the most gorgeous boxed set of Pinocchio albums from the 30s. Fabulous illustration on the box cover.  LOVED it, but at 400 euro, needed to resist. (Alas, I didn't take a photo either)

There was another man selling old illustrations from medical books -- two creepy ones related to neurology, but I couldn't get Rick to bite.  I guess his "shrink collection" is limited to old bottles of elixirs created to calm the crazies.

And finally, the most beautiful bike with wood platform in front. I could see myself pedaling through Tuscany with baskets of flowers and fresh produce :) But, such an item would not be a very pragmatic purchase.
